Celebrating Health, Connection, and Community: A Look Back at the 8-Week WeWalk WeTalk Summer Challenge for Seniors
This summer, Connections Community Services Society (CCSS) successfully wrapped up its 8-week WeWalk WeTalk Summer Challenge, a program designed to promote physical wellness, mental vitality, and active community participation among older adults. Supported by two dedicated Summer Program Assistants—Chun Him Lai and Elysia Law—funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant. The activities recorded a total of over 70 senior attendances.
A Summer Packed with Wellness and Engagement
Throughout July and August, seniors took part in a dynamic schedule tailored to foster healthy habits and intergenerational connection:
Kick-off & Community Fun: The initiative began on July 12 with an energetic Kick-Off Ceremony, followed by a World Cup Finals Watch Party that brought participants together for fun and socialization.
Active Body & Mind: Participants stayed active through guided Chair Yoga and targeted Stretching & Flexibility classes.
Healthy Living & Creativity: Seniors explored nutritious lifestyle choices in a Healthy Snack Making workshop and exercised their creativity during hands-on Arts & Crafts sessions.
Every participant tracked their progress using a personalized “WeWalk WeTalk Passport” task log, earning stamps for attending events and completing daily health habits such as staying hydrated, eating balanced meals, engaging in daily movement, and chatting with peers.
