RICHMOND, B.C. — August 30, 2026 — Connections Community Services Society (CCSS) welcomed nearly 300 participants to its WeWalk WeTalk Walkathon & Carnival on August 30, bringing the community together to celebrate the successful conclusion of eight weeks of summer activities under CCSS’s Intergenerational Connect initiative.

Member of Parliament Chak Au and B.C. MLAs Teresa Wat and Hon Chan joined the celebration and led participants in the walkathon. Starting from the CCSS office, participants completed an approximately three-kilometre walk before returning to the Carnival. Along the way, seniors and young volunteers walked side by side, sharing memories of the past and their hopes for the future.

The experience reflected the spirit of WeWalk WeTalk — creating opportunities for different generations to connect through conversation, shared experiences and time spent together.

“I am very happy and honoured to be here today,” said Au. “The energy and spirit of all the young people here make me feel 50 years younger.”

Wat praised the creativity of the Intergenerational Connect initiative and encouraged members of the community to donate in support of the program.

Chan said he particularly liked the name “WeWalk WeTalk” and also encouraged the community to support CCSS through donations.

During the ceremony, CCSS Board Chair Gary Ma, Board Finance Chair Pang Wang and Executive Director Daniel Suen accepted a $2,000 donation from the Vancouver Sowers Society of Education.

The donation will support the Generations Homework Club, an one-on-one tutoring program under CCSS’s Intergenerational Connect initiative that provides learning support for children and youth while fostering meaningful connections across generations.

“We donated to Connections to support children and youth and provide them with practical resources and opportunities to grow,” said Camilla Lui, President of the Vancouver Sowers Society of Education.

The success of the WeWalk WeTalk Walkathon & Carnival was made possible by the dedication and contributions of the CCSS staff team, five summer students — Chun Him Lai, Elysia Law, Jojo Dong, Semeion Francisco and Isaac Tong — as well as supporting organizations, community partners, promotional partners, booth operators and volunteers.
