From Celebration to Spring
Dear Community Partners,
As we move from celebration into spring, our community continues to grow through connections, care and shared moments. From celebrating the Lunar New Year together and preparing meaningful programs for children and seniors alike, to preparing for our Tax Clinic to support families in need, the past few weeks have been full of impact and joy.
In this issue, we’re excited to share highlights from our recent Lunar New Year fundraising event and media coverage. Here is a preview of what’s coming up in March, including a fun and intergenerational puzzle competition you won’t want to miss.
Thank you for being part of the CCSS community 💛
📚 Richmond’s First Library-Based Before & After School Care
Connections Kids Club is proud to expand our licensed Before & After School Care services to Spul’u’kwuks Elementary School in Richmond, providing trusted childcare support to families in the Terra Nova community, alongside the nearby Connections Childcare Centre.
As Richmond’s first library-based Before & After School Care program, this new centre offers a calm, learning-friendly environment where children feel safe and engaged before and after the school day. Service begins in March 2026.
💼 Helping Our Community File Taxes
CCSS is pleased to offer a Free Tax Clinic through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Our volunteers provide free assistance to eligible individuals and families with simple tax returns, helping everyone access important benefits and credits with confidence.
This service is offered at no cost and is part of our commitment to supporting financial well-being and access to essential services in our community.
📺 CBC Feature: Generations Homework Club
Our Generations Homework Club was recently featured on CBC News at the Richmond Public Library, highlighting the way this after-school program pairs high school volunteers with younger students for tailored, one-on-one homework support. Through patient mentoring, students, especially those new to English, build confidence, vocabulary and a positive attitude toward learning.Â
Families and volunteers shared how meaningful the experience has been, emphasizing accessible academic support and intergenerational connection. With a waitlist still growing, the story also points to increasing community need for quality after-school learning programs.
🧩 Puzzle, Play, and Compete!
Get ready for an afternoon of fun, teamwork, and friendly competition! CCSS is excited to host our Speed Puzzling Competition on Sunday, March 22, 2026, bringing the community together for a joyful and engaging event.
The event kicks off from 2:00–2:30 pm with a Puzzle Swap, where participants can bring puzzles to exchange, share and connect with fellow puzzle enthusiasts. It’s a relaxed and social way to warm up before the competition begins.
From 2:30–5:00 pm, teams of four participants will take on an upgraded 1,000-piece puzzle challenge, racing against the clock and working together to put every piece in place. Whether you’re an experienced puzzler or just looking for a fun team activity, this event is all about collaboration and community spirit.
🧧 Lunar New Year, Shared Generations
This Lunar New Year, we were grateful to celebrate the season with our community through two intergenerational initiatives — a Lunar New Year celebration for seniors and a calligraphy fundraising activity that connected generations and supported CCSS programs.
Thank you to all donors, volunteers and participants for your generosity. These moments were also shared by Fairchild Television and Richmond News, helping spread the spirit of giving across Richmond.
